G6PD Deficiency

Also known as: Glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency

Glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD) deficiency is a genetic disorder that is most common in males. About 1 in 10 African American males in the United States has it. G6PD deficiency mainly affects red blood cells , which carry oxygen from the lungs to tissues throughout the body. The most common medical problem it can cause is hemolytic anemia . That happens when red blood cells are destroyed faster than the body can replace them. If you have G6PD deficiency, you may not have symptoms. Symptoms happen if your red blood cells are exposed to certain chemicals in food or medicine, certain bacterial or viral infections, or stress.

Genital Herpes

Also known as: Herpes genitalis

Genital herpes is a sexually transmitted infection (STI) caused by a herpes simplex virus (HSV). It can cause sores on your genital or rectal area, buttocks, and thighs. You can get it from having vaginal, anal, or oral sex with someone who has it. The virus can spread even when sores are not present. Mothers can also infect their babies during childbirth. Symptoms of herpes are called outbreaks. You usually get sores near the area where the virus has entered the body. The sores are blisters which break and become painful, and then heal. Sometimes people do not know they have herpes because they have no symptoms or very mild symptoms.

Giardia Infections

Giardiasis is an illness caused by a parasite called Giardia intestinalis. It lives in soil, food, and water. It may also be on surfaces that have been contaminated with waste. You can become infected if you swallow the parasite. You can also get it if you're exposed to human feces (poop) through sexual contact. Diarrhea is the main symptom of giardia infection. Others include: Passing gas Greasy stools Stomach cramps Upset stomach or nausea These symptoms may lead to weight loss and loss of body fluids.

Bacterial, Viral & Fungal Infections ICD-10 A07.1

Giardia lamblia infection

Clinical triage of Giardia lamblia infection (A07.1) in Infections & Antivirals relies on rapid antigen/NAAT PCR in Giardia lamblia infection (A07.1: diagnostics), guiding step-wise therapeutic adjustments toward C-Reactive Protein / in Giardia lamblia infection (A07.1: Procalcitonin) (Resolution to baseline (A07.1)).

Global Health

Also known as: International health

The spread of a disease doesn't stop at a country's borders. With more people living in crowded cities and traveling to other countries, it's easier for germs to spread. Infectious diseases that start in one part of the world can quickly reach another part of the world. Some of the major diseases currently affecting countries around the globe include HIV , malaria , COVID-19 , and tuberculosis . Besides the spread of diseases, there are other global health challenges. Resistance to medicines such as antibiotics is on the rise. That makes it harder to treat certain diseases.

Granuloma - caseating

Under Bacterial, Viral & Fungal Infections diagnostic criteria (A15.8), workup for Granuloma - caseating integrates antimicrobial stewardship (narrow-spectrum in Granuloma - caseating (A15.8: pathogen-directed duration) or) with evidence-graded therapy tailored to Complete Blood Count in Granuloma - caseating (A15.8: (WBC & Differential)) response.

Bacterial, Viral & Fungal Infections ICD-10 A58

Granuloma - inguinale

Cataloged under federal diagnostic code A58 in Infections & Antivirals, Granuloma - inguinale requires antimicrobial stewardship (narrow-spectrum in Granuloma - inguinale (A58: pathogen-directed duration) or) so specialists can calibrate treatment intensity against C-Reactive Protein / in Granuloma - inguinale (A58: Procalcitonin) benchmarks.
