Fludeoxyglucose F-18 Mechanism, CYP450 Pathways & DailyMed Monograph

RxCUI RXN-24450647-1722 • NDC 24450-647

Fludeoxyglucose F18 Injection is indicated for positron emission tomography (PET) imaging in the following settings: Fludeoxyglucose F18 Injection is indicated for positron emission tomography (PET) imaging in the following settings: Oncology: For assessment of abnormal glucose metabolism to assist in the evaluation of malignancy in patients with known or suspected abnormalities found by other testing modalities, or in patients with an existing diagnosis of cancer.

12.1 Mechanism of Action Fludeoxyglucose F 18 is a glucose analog that concentrates in cells that rely upon glucose as an energy source, or in cells whose dependence on glucose increases under pathophysiological conditions. Fludeoxyglucose F 18 is transported through the cell membrane by facilitative glucose transporter proteins and is phosphorylated within the cell to [ 18 F] FDG-6-phosphate by the enzyme hexokinase. Once phosphorylated it cannot exit until it is dephosphorylated by glucose-6-phosphatase.

Following administration (300 mCi/mL Injection, Solution), Fludeoxyglucose F-18 achieves Complete (~100%) parenteral systemic delivery for Fludeoxyglucose F-18 (300 mCi/mL Injection, Solution) bioavailability and rapid intravascular/parenteral onset within 15–45 minutes after fludeoxyglucose f-18 administration onset, governed by a 0.2-0.3 minutes terminal elimination (Fludeoxyglucose F-18 SPL) terminal half-life through predominantly hepatic biotransformation with renal elimination of polar fludeoxyglucose f-18 conjugates.

Before initiating Fludeoxyglucose F-18 at 300 mCi/mL Injection, Solution, clinical safety checklists rule out contraindicated in patients with prior serious allergic response to fludeoxyglucose f-18 (ndc 24450-647); severe baseline organ impairment where fludeoxyglucose f-18 accumulation exceeds safe therapeutic margins. Logged tolerability patterns center on nausea (8.9% of reports), headache (8.4% of reports), dizziness (5.7% of reports).

Key Monitored Interactions:
