Lisinopril gave me a relentless dry throat tickle cough at night after 8 weeks—how fast did yours stop after switching to Losartan or Telmisartan?
Lisinopril 20 mg brought my blood pressure down beautifully from 146/92 to 122/76 mmHg, so when I developed a dry, hacking tickle in my throat two months later (especially when lying flat at 11 PM), I thought it was post-nasal drip or seasonal allergies. Cough drops and antihistamines did nothing. After reading here about how ACE inhibitors block the breakdown of bradykinin in the lungs, I messaged my doctor and we did a direct next-day switch to Losartan 50 mg (an ARB, which blocks the angiotensin receptor without raising bradykinin). By day 9 the cough was 80% gone, and by week 3 it completely vanished while my home BP stayed at 120/75! If you had the ACE-inhibitor cough, how long did it take to clear after switching to an ARB?

ACE-inhibitor dry cough occurs in 5%–15% of patients due to accumulation of bradykinin and Substance P in the bronchial mucosa and can begin anywhere from 1 week to 6 months after initiation. Switching to an Angiotensin Receptor Blocker (Losartan, Telmisartan, Valsartan) resolves the cough in 1–4 weeks without loss of blood pressure control.
Mine started after 4 months on Lisinopril! I went through an entire allergy workup before a pharmacist asked if I took an ACE inhibitor. Switched to Telmisartan 40 mg ($8/mo at Cost Plus) and the throat tickle was gone in 12 days.
Took about 2.5 weeks for my airways to calm down completely after switching from Lisinopril to Losartan. Also love that Losartan helps lower serum uric acid slightly as a bonus.
Same experience—don't tough out the nighttime cough thinking it'll go away on its own. Once you have the bradykinin cough, only switching from an '-pril' to a '-sartan' fixes it.
